Stuff Kids Say

Hi everyone! My name is Kati, and I blog over at Incorporating Color, where I talk about my life as a Midwestern, Jesus-loving middle school teacher. I'm so thrilled to be guest posting here for Brooke while she kicks back on vacation - although I am pretty jealous that I'm not currently somewhere warm!

To start things off, I have a sister who is eight years younger than me. I remember my mom once talking about things that you thought you'd never have to say to your child.

With my sister, it was the phrase, "We don't talk about body parts at the table" (don't ask).

I'm currently finishing up my first year of teaching seventh and eighth grade reading, and I've realized that teaching 12-14 year-olds is a lot like that. Going into it, I felt like they were relatively mature - I mean, they're not five years old! However, you end up saying a lot of things you really thought you'd never have to say - especially to eighth grade boys, like...

"Take your PANTS off your ARMS!" [Seriously, eighth grade boys? Thankfully, at least, they were sweatpants and they were still wearing gym shorts, but still... REALLY?]

"DO NOT lick him or I will give you detention!" [To be fair, it was hilarious since he was trying to lick someone's elbow to see if they'd notice - rumor has it that you wouldn't...]

"faces that ms. s makes" poem

"Stop calling me 'bro'." [One student still does, but he's quirky and weird, so sometimes I let it slide.]

"You are NOT allowed to call her a witch again." [Okay, this was to a seventh grade boy who shouted that the girl sitting next to him was a witch because she had "purple eyes" - which turned out to be purple eyeLINER.]

the ninja grading maneuver.

"Just so you know, if you talk like a robot during your presentation, you're going to fail." [This was to the same kid who calls me 'bro'...]

creative hyperbole.

"You need to stop hugging him. He doesn't look like he's enjoying it." [Same kid.]

"Where did your shoes go?" [Seriously, where were they? No idea.]

"Come OUT of the CLOSET!" [I have an empty supply closet. Do you know how many eighth grade boys can fit in there when I turn my head? Seven. The answer is seven.]

note on said closet whiteboard from weirdos.

Liked the stuff I thought I'd never have to say? Come check out my blog. I do regular installments of "Stuff Kids Say" - where you can live vicariously through my middle school teaching adventures instead of having to teach those yahoos yourself. :)

Shopping, Sweets and Strawberry Shortcake

Ah, Monday is back already! Fortunately this weekend seemed to last awhile and I managed to be very productive! My many spurts of energy came in handy! I seemed to accomplish many great things making it very easy to share the good of my weekend and a little harder to find any bad!

The Good...

1. Retail Therapy! Buy one get one free on most items at Old Navy! Or $5 tank tops! Or 2 for 5 flip flops! I managed to fill a very large bag with shoes and clothes for Madison and I for $55! If you spent $75 then they also took $20 off your grand total! This deal goes until Wednesday, better go hit the racks now! With our other exciting encounters like finding Madison's future rocker while she rocked out and riding the rides at the mall, the weekend turned out to be lots of fun!

2. My preparation for Madison's party is about 98% complete! I am putting the debit card away with the exception of spray paint for a DIY project (details coming soon), the cake, piñata candy and a few last minute items like forks, spoons, drinks and cups! Other than that the strawberry shortcake party will be a hit! As long as mother nature cooperates! Crossing our fingers and toes!

3. Our run to Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks was once again a success! Fresh donuts, a grande white chocolate mocha and a hot chocolate was exactly what we needed on our Sunday morning.

4. Seeing my sister's trial hair and her wedding dress fitting was a moment. I never dreamed I would be standing in front of my little sister two months before her wedding watching her prepare for her big day. What an exciting time!

The Bad...

1. I may have eaten one too many of those donuts and given myself a belly ache. They are just so darn good and hard to resist!

2. The debit card is officially on fire. I must leave it at home for the rest of the week or I'm in trouble. I need to start telling myself "No, you do not NEED that. You WANT that. BIG difference."

The Ugly...

1. The GREAT moment that happened but proves to myself that my little girl is no longer my little girl and breaks my heart knowing she is growing up so fast is seeing her write her name for the very first time! I don't know how moms do it, just watch their little boys and girls grow up and not fall apart. I might need therapy with this one. Each day that I see her getting bigger and bigger and growing up I become even more sad. I'm an emotional person and I may have shed a lot of tears over this already. I think I will have her sign a contract now that says she must live with mom and dad for the rest of her life? No? Darn it! :) A mom can only wish!

Another One Bites The Dust

Good morning Wide Open Spaces readers! If you are like me you have drank multiple cups of coffee and slapped your face a few times to wake up. No?  A little over the top? Maybe, but it IS Monday and it is the hardest day of the week to get going.  Admitting that the weekend is over is just sad.

I am linking up with Kate and Kati to bring you my GBU (good, bad and ugly) of the weekend. Are you reading Kate and Kati's blogs? If you aren't you are missing out on laughter and fun. They are two besties who make me laugh on any given day and are the two sweetest girls I have met! Take the time to stop by and say hello!

The Good...I took Madison and her aunt Skylar to Chuckie Cheese. Not only do I love to see the smiles on their faces, I love playing all of the games as well. What can I say I am a kid at heart too!

The Bad...With Madison and my birthday coming up there is A LOT of party planning! Not for mine but for hers. It is Strawberry Shortcake themed. She has been saying for months that she is getting a Strawberry Shortcake cake so I figured why not throw the entire party as that! Our upcoming vacation was intended to replace the BIG party but I couldn't pass up throwing something together. We downsized the party and only invited close friends and family but with more and more people being asked to intend it looks like the party will end up being the same size as usual. I am already around $200 into the whole thing and that doesn't include food or the rest of the décor. Whoops!

The Ugly...I had a fast and great experience at CVS Minute Clinic on Thursday to get some meds to fight my sinus infection. I took the medicine regularly all day Friday and then I was so busy on Saturday that I forgot to take them. So come Saturday night I was in extreme pain. The pain in my head and nose made me miserable and the nauseous feeling was insane. Needless to say I popped the pills real quick and went to bed. I hope the medication fights this infection and I can get back to feeling like my normal self.

Motivational Monday!

via
Can you tell what I woke up daydreaming about?
That would be warm weather, my upcoming vacation in May and the beach!
I could sit by the ocean with sand in between my toes soaking in God's beautiful work all day, every day!
Is there something you are looking forward to?
What gets you through those dreaded Monday's?
Speaking of Monday I am linking up with two lovely ladies, Kate and Kati, to bring you the GBU (the good, bad and ugly) of my weekend!

Let's get going!

 The Good:
Friday night we celebrated our five year wedding anniversary! If you haven't already read the honeymoon story click here for part 1 and here for part 2. It will be a memory I will never forget.
Here are a few wedding pictures and some from our five year anniversary dinner!

The Bad:
My computer decided to crash on Wednesday so I had to throw down an extra weeks paycheck on a new laptop! It was totally worth it and I scored a great deal thanks to the help of Chelsee but spending that kind of money kills my checkbook!

The Ugly:
Due to the new computer I pretty much accomplished nothing but writing tons of blog posts and reading up on some of my faves! Including Wifessionals, Southern Beauty Guide and Diary of a Debutante!

Don't forget to enter the giveaway for a Kate Spade handbag of your choice!
Have a positive, stress free Monday and work week!

The Good, Bad and Ugly

My weekend has been one of the better ones since the beginning of December. After two surgeries and a sickness I was ready to begin a "normal" weekend. I spent the weekend celebrating my best friend's birthday, cleaning up my house, redecorating and lots of retail therapy! It may be a little harder to find the bad and ugly of my weekend but I'll give it a try!

The Good...Shopping! I spent Saturday afternoon buying new clothes and spending a great sunny day with my friend, Heather. We hardly get to see each other or talk so it was nice to vent and catch up about life! I can't wait to do it again! Friendship makes my heart happy!

The Bad...My main goal for the weekend was to find new dress pants for work. Due to my surgeries and sickness I have dropped close to ten pounds. I cannot for the life of me find new pants! They are either skin tight and the right length, too large and too long or just the right size and entirely too short. I found one pair of black pants which was not the goal. Where do you shop for regular dress pants? Gray, tan etc. I need shopping advice! Small waist and average to tall length.

The Ugly...I would say I had a terrible weekend of hair! I am need of a hair appt stat! Static, dryness and lack of volume are my problem. My hair seems to grow way too fast allowing my bangs to drop down over my face. I have also noticed that my hair is super thin! I don't know if it is stress or what but I would say half of my hair has fallen out. What shampoo do you use? Have you encountered this problem? How did you "fix" your hair?

How was your weekend?
