Pinterest Inspired: Frozen Marbles

Over the past three days the Indy area has been hit hard with a snow storm! Despite the weather conditions we have been making the best out of our time at home! Negative 20 plus degrees, 12 inches of snow and ice covered roads will not get us down! At least that's what I keep telling myself. Being cooped up indoors for three days has made us a little stir crazy so I decided to use my friend Pinterest and boy did we score with some fun!

We decided to make frozen marbles (mega sized!)

If you too are experiencing these weather conditions I encourage you to take advantage of the fun winter activities Pinterest has to offer!

In a few easy steps we created beautiful and colorful marbles! It was great to see Madison's reaction when I cut open the balloons and showed her what we had made!

Sometimes you have to shut off the tv, phone and other devices and spend a little quality time together!

Making the best out of a terrible situation is what I like to do!

Materials:
Balloons
Water
Food Coloring

Instructions:

1. Take a few balloons and fill them with food coloring and water. Tie them off.
(TIP: I put a little water in the balloon first, tapped in some color and then filled the balloon the rest of the way)

2. Place the balloons in the snow (this allows them from sticking to the ground or concrete)

3. Let the water freeze inside of the balloons

4. Once frozen, cut open the balloons and voila you have an awesome artistic creation!

Snow Pinteresting

via
In the past four days all it has done is snow. It is cold, frigid and a blanket of ice has covered everything.

Over the weekend, Madison's friend came by for a sleepover. In the midst of all of the great adventures we encountered all the kids wanted to do was play in the snow.

With our lack of preparation of necessary apparel for the kiddos I came up with an idea.
So I turned to them and asked "How about we build a snowman inside?"

To my surprise they both yelled "Yay!" and were beyond excited to see exactly what I was talking about.
Among my countless hours of scrolling through Pinterest pins I came across

Toilet Paper Roll Snowmen

Brilliant right? I mean if you go through toilet paper the way we do you know that these little bad boys are handy almost daily.
At the beginning of the week I started to keep a stock of them just for this very moment. With a few supplies and two artists on hand we got right down to business!

Materials:

Toilet paper rolls
Colored and white construction paper
Tape/glue
Markers/crayons
Q-tips

Instructions:

Cut a piece of white construction paper to fit the toilet paper roll, attach with tape/glue
Draw on the snowman's eyes and mouth with a black marker/crayon
Cut a carrot shaped nose from orange construction paper or color a plain sheet and attach with tape/glue
Cut a hat out of black paper or color a plain sheet, attach with tape/glue
Cut a strip of colored paper out for the snowmans scarf, attach with tape/glue
If you would like to add arms I poked holes in the sides of the snowman and inserted q-tips

Are they not the cutest little things? Madison and Cash had so much fun making these and I loved watching them become so creative. A quick and simple craft that keeps the family involved with each other and sparks family traditions!

Very Pinteresting: A Button For Your Blog

You might have noticed a little addition to my blog today, a pin it button hovering over all of my images!

Now let me start by saying, blog codes and I have not became friends yet. I am no master to all of the signs, letters and run on symbols that it takes to turn this little piece of the Internet into a work of art.
What I do know is I do research. Google is my bff and I use it for everything. The girls at work even call me the Google master because I can find anything on there at the speed of light.

So while searching and searching for a step by step process that made sense, took me minutes to figure out and was a piece of cake I discovered that my bloggy buddies Kaitlyn and Chelsee had found it!

So if you are a beginner or expert these few steps will connect your blog images to Pinterest and give you a little button that looks like the one below and you can start pinning away!

First right click the image below and save it to your computer

Go to PicMonkey.com and upload a blank color swatch of your choice.
Here is mine if you would like to use it (it looks darker here but it turns out lighter when you upload it)

If you upload your own swatch you will need to crop it to perfect square of 75 x 75.
Then select Frames and Rounded Corners

Next slide the Corner Radius level all the way to the right and click Transparent Corners.
This gives you a circle.

Now go to Overlays and click Your Own

Upload the P image from above and use the color palette to choose which color you want the P to be.
Resize and move the P until is centered and positioned how you want it.
You will then save the image to your computer as a .png file.

Next upload the image to a photo sharing site, for example Photobucket is what I use.

You will now go to your Blogger dashboard, click Template and then click Edit HTML

Locate the code "body". If you hit Control +F to find it, your computer will highlight it for you. Now copy the following this code above body.

Once you have this code copied above "body" you will want to "cut out" the portion that reads this:

Now copy in your own direct link between the quotation marks which can found on your photo sharing site that you uploaded your "Pin It" Image to.

The highlighted portion is what you will "cut out" and then replace with your own direct code which can be found in your photo sharing site.

Click save and Whoooo Hoooo you are all done!!

This may seem like complete and utter confusion but I promise you if you take these directions step by step you too can enjoy a new Pin It button on your blog!

Feel free to email me with any questions!
