Who's Counting Anyway?

The countdown is on! In approximately one month and two weeks I will be headed to Myrtle Beach! Can you say whooo hoooo!

I have started my to do list, purchased a tanning package, booked the hotel and sort of planned out our week.

Here in Indy the weather has managed to keep a steady temperature of around 35 degrees. Winter coats, boots, gloves, scarf’s and jeans are all still in full effect. We even had a dusting of snow this morning and they say more might be right around the corner. This time last year the high was 83! Seriously a 50 degree difference! C’mon man!!

I am missing the sunshine and cool breezes at night. I am missing the sand between my toes and the water splashing onto my legs while I take a stroll along the shore.

I miss sunglasses! I miss utilizing my cute beach bags to tote around all the great souvenirs that I must bring back home!

What are you missing? Vacation? Warm weather? Rest and relaxation?

It’s all about the little things that bring us down to our calming, non stressed happy selves isn’t it?

There are so many things that I love about going on vacation!

This time we are opting out of the plane ride and couples trip and taking a family trip with our daughter instead! 12.5 hours in a car with a four year old, it can’t be that bad right?

Every day she wakes up and asks me “Mom, today are we going to the party beach?” She is super excited. We planned this little trip two weeks after my birthday and one week after hers. A little celebration to ourselves. It will be a little less party planning (her party looks a little something like my sweet sixteen but sweet one, two and three instead). You could say she is a little spoiled loved.

I keep replaying in my head how this long car ride will go and I want it to be the best experience for all of us, not a dreaded regretful one. We are leaving on a Friday after work and driving half way there, 6 hours. We think by splitting this trip up it will be less exhausting and stressful and Madison will sleep a few of the hours. We will then stay in a hotel and continue the other 6.5 hours Saturday morning. Sound like a good idea? I hope so.

I found through Pinterest (God’s gift to women) okay maybe not really but it helps with A LOT of things that there are many great ideas for car rides. Games, activities, coloring sheets etc.

Here are just a couple of ideas I have found:

A portable dollhouse!
via
A quiet felt activity game board!
via
A game card holder! Now we can play Go Fish and not have to worry about falling cards!
via
Teaching numbers, colors and words all at the same time!
via
Genius!
via
A busy box full of car ride games and essentials!
via
Scavenger Hunt! Easy and cheap to make!
via
B.I.N.G.O

I wonder who will win?

I am asking you to help a girl and mommy in need out!
Do you have any road trip activities that you and your family participate in? Do you have children that you have taken on a long car ride and had to come up with creative ideas yourself? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!
Wish me luck on planning this excursion! I can’t wait to share with you more of my vacation planning process!

  1. We took our then 14 month old on a 17 hour drive to Naples, Florida and it was nuts! We split it up too, best idea ever. Since your daughter is older, hopefully it won't be so bad. Good luck!

PS - I too can't wait for this crazy Indiana weather to go away :-)

  2. I love Myrtle Beach. I live about 3 1/2 hours away and we try to go every summer. If you need any tips or recommendations on where to eat let me know. You are going to have a blast! Where are you staying at?

  4. I don't have any road trip advice but I am incredibly jealous of your trip, 12 hours in a car with a preschooler or no. The weather here really needs to catch up with the calendar. I'm so over the cold. Ugh.
